Shrub Rose

Carefree Marvel

Shrub roses, sometimes called “Old Garden Roses”, as a group are a conglomeration of several wild species, hybrids and cultivars that vary widely botanically and develop large, dense bushes or shrubs. Most varieties and species of shrub roses are vigorous, hardy and resistant to insects and diseases. Shrub roses have growth habits varying from low ground cover types to large impenetrable hedge types. Not all shrub roses have fragrance. They do have attractive foliage, bunches of small flowers all summer and in the fall they produce seed pods or “hips” that make this shrub valuable either as a ground cover, a hedge or as a screen of some kind in the landscape. Some varieties will work well in containers.
