 Month to Month Care for Plum

Month of January            Plum - Spray program - This month is the time to spray all fruit trees with dormant oil or all season horticultural oil (2.5 ounces per gallon of water) to smother eggs of pest insects over-wintering on the bark of the tree. Spray entire tree. Do not spray when the temperatures are below 40°F.

Month of February            Plum - Spray program - This month is the time to spray all fruit trees with dormant oil or all season horticultural oil (2.5 ounces per gallon of water) to smother eggs of pest insects over-wintering on the bark of the tree. Spray entire tree. Do not spray when the temperatures are below 40°F.

Month of July           

Month of August            All fruit should be picked before becoming over-ripe.  Also no fruit should be allowed to remain on the trees after ripening.  This helps to reduce many disease and insect problems.

Month of September           

Month of October            Rodent and Rabbit Protection – If you live in an area expecting snow cover during the winter, then surround the base of the apple trees with a one foot wide band of hardware cloth will keep mice, voles, and rabbits from eating the bark off the tree and possibly killing it.
