Container Gardening
Colchicums can be grown in tubs or standard clay pots. Or simply place a few of them in a dish of pebbles and add water, keeping the corm bottoms wet. They'll bloom directly, without any soil. See Growing Plants In Containers and Containers For Plants in Yardener’s Tool Shed.

Design Considerations
Colchicums are good for edging, foundation plantings and filling in odd corners. Try them along paths, or under shrubs and trees, and in the lawn where the grass is thin and can remain unmown into the summer. Bear in mind that colchicum foliage looks unattractive as it dies back. Planting them in among ground cover like myrtle helps to obscure dying leaves. They're excellent massed with other bulbs in rock gardens.
