Choose daylilies by color and bloom time. With careful planning you can have blooming plants virtually all summer. Because there are literally tens of thousands of named hybrid daylilies it is possible to mention only a few.

The first All-American daylily: `Black-eyed Stella'.

Miniature (flowers under 3 inches) versions:
‘Siloam BoPeep’ winner of the 1983 Annie T. Giles Award.
`Yellow Tinkerbelle' is nine inches tall, yields about 7 flowers per stem.
Also miniature: `Bitsy', `Butterpat', and 'Raindrop'.

Extended bloomers: `Stella de Oro', ‘Happy Returns’.

Recommended for evening gardening:
`Evening Bell', `Erin Prairie', `Green Ice', `Silver Circus', `Tootsie' , ‘Stella de Oro’ stays open until 8:00 p.m.

Another type of daylily, altissima, develops 6 foot flower stems above foliage that is two feet tall and blooms July through September. Good choices in yellow tones are `Autumn Minaret' and `Statuesque'.
