Use Spireas in mass plantings, along garden walls, as groundcovers or low informal hedges (planted 1¼ feet apart), and as stand-alone specimen plants. Some varieties are great for rock gardens.

Spirea flowers make beautiful bouquets. Cut the stems in the morning when the flowers are just opening, then immediately plunge them into a bucket of warm water (about 110° F) and bring them indoors. Slit the cut ends to encourage them to take up water. To prolong freshness add a floral conditioner or some citrus-based carbonated soda (non-diet) to the water.
