Japanese Pagoda trees, for best performance, should be grown in moist, well drained loam that is acidic or slightly alkaline. The soil should be deep enough to accommodate their long root systems. They flourish in full sun. With that said, these trees will tolerate fairly lousy soil conditions if they have to. The Japanese Pagoda tree is somewhat sensitive to being planted or transplanted in autumn, so spring is the best time. Don’t place the tree where it will be exposed to salt spray in the winter.
