Planting Ornamental Pear

Pear trees appreciate full sun. They are not terribly demanding about soil type, as long as it is reasonably fertile. They are valued in the South because, unlike so many plants, they have no difficulty with clay soil. Pear trees prefer a slightly acidic soil (pH5.5 to 7.5). Choose nursery stock that is 5 to 8 feet tall whose roots and soil are in a ball wrapped with burlap or in a container. Keep the soil moist until planting time.
