Flowering Plum Trees bloom at the same time the early spring bulbs are out. Locate trees near bulb beds, or among other shrubs that flower a bit later like spirea and forsythia. Clump 2 or 3 Flowering Plums out in the lawn as an accent, in rows along a drive or property line, or espaliered on a tree fence or wall. Do NOT plant them in or very near a vegetable garden. The trees are vulnerable to the fungal disease verticillium wilt which is common in many food gardens.

As A Container Plant - Several Flowering Plum varieties will do well in a container on the porch or patio. Choose a sturdy container at least 24 inches deep with has holes in the bottom to permit good drainage. Use a light soilless mix rather than normal garden soil to promote drainage and reduce the weight of the container.
