Caring For Sumac

Spring
These plants can become invasive in the home landscape if not supervised a bit. Remove suckers that come up where you don’t want them. Cut out some of the oldest growth each year and allow some suckers within the colony to grow in to replace them. If you get some sprouts in the lawn, simply mow them down and they will not return. If you are pulling suckers with your hands be sure to wear gloves to avoid getting oneion-like odor all over your hands.
