Using Chestnut in the Yard

Use hybrid American Chestnuts or Chinese Chestnut trees as ornamental accents on an open lawn, or as focal points in corners or along borders of large properties.
Cooking Chestnuts
Chestnuts are delicious steamed for 20 to 30 minutes. Cut an “X” in the point of the nut so the shell splits easily. You don t have to roast your Chestnuts over an open fire as the song suggests, simply cut your X and place the Chestnuts in a roasting pan and bake them at 400 degrees for 45 o 60 minutes. You can eat them directly from the oven or steamer or you can use them in various other dishes. They make a great crunchy addition to stir fry, garden salad, potato salad, or a casserole.
