Planting Ginkgo
Spring is the optimum planting time for Ginkgoes, although young trees in containers transplant well anytime during the growing season. Listed to grow in Zones 3A to 8A, they are especially suited for coastal regions on both the east and west coasts. Ginkgo wants to be in full sun. They prefer moist, well-drained soil rich in organic material, but are amazingly tolerate of a wide range of soil conditions. They can handle clay or sand and a range of pH. Ginkgo are easy to plant when young, and also to transplant when older. They take several years to recover, though.
