Characteristics of a Healthy Southern Lawn

Characteristics of a Healthy Lawn

Healthy lawns grow in soil with lots of organic material in it. This provides nutrients and improves soil texture. In healthy soil, grass plants:
Have deep roots so they need less watering.
Need less fertilizer.
Rarely have disease problems.
Grow thick and dense and so have fewer weeds.
Healthy lawns are cut high, allowing grass plants to:
Shade out weeds
Grow more slowly and need less mowing.
Lose less moisture and need less watering.
Shelter beneficial insects, which control pest insects.
