Problems At Bird Bath

Homeowners don’t realize that water attracts more bird species than any feeder or nest box. However, birdbaths can present several problems to the birds you are trying to help.
The first issue is the location of the birdbath. Improperly placed, the birdbath can be a death trap in areas where there are cats. The birdbath needs to be out in the open, at least four feet from any cover than can hide a stalking cat. No cat can cover four feet faster than the bird can fly.

Birdbaths can be a problem when they are too deep. Small birds can drown in water that is only 3 inches deep. Birdbaths can get dirty since bird's bath and defecate in the water as well as drink it. Consequently, a birdbath needs to be cleaned regularly, at least once a week.
