No yard care tool has changed as much in recent years as has the watering device. Convenience, better plant growth, and the need to save water are the incentives for these changes. At the same time no tool has become more confusing to the homeowner. The new watering technology requires new information that is not easily obtainable.
Fortunately, the watering can still works pretty much as it has for centuries but almost everything else has been "improved". Now that we can't waste water and have less time for our watering chores we have some new issues to consider in selecting our watering equipment. This file summarizes the benefits and some of the weaknesses of each type of watering device. There is no single device that will do everything. That is why we are moving to have a "watering system", a collection of watering devices that cover all of our watering needs.
