Trap the Armadillo to Kill It
Armadillos can be trapped in a Hav A Hart type trap if it is baited with spearmint gum, apples, bananas or other over ripe fruit. Set the trap along an apparent armadillo pathway or near a burrow entrance known to be occupied. The critter has terrible eye sight, so you have better success if you guide them into the trap with a chute made of two-by-fours. It sounds crazy, but this technique will work. It is hard to kill an armadillo by drowning it because it can hold its breath for a long time. They can’t swim. They simply hold their breath and walk across the river under water. Shooting the armadillo in the trap is probably the most humane solution to the problem.
