Preventing Chipmunk Problems

Encourage the Predators of the Chipmunk
Chipmunks have many natural enemies, which may help you in your battle to rid the yard of these critters if they become too numerous and persistent. Certain snakes of the genus Pituophis (bull snakes, gopher snakes, and pine snakes) are fond of chipmunks. Other predators include cats, dogs, king snakes, skunks, barn owls, weasels, foxes, hawks, raccoons, and coyotes. It might seem strange to include the coyote in this list, but that animal is spreading all over the country. There estimated to be over 2500 coyotes in New Jersey. The state has opened a 17 day hunting season to keep coyote numbers down.
