Take care that the product you use to control your grubs is safe for animals in your yard. Avoid using any grub-killing insecticide containing granular diazinon. While this product effectively kills grubs, it is known to kill songbirds, ducks, and geese which mistake it for food as it sits on grass or soil surface. It has been banned from use on public golf courses for that reason.
You can kill the grubs in your lawn and garden soil if you act before the middle of June when they usually emerge from the soil. Killing them before they can develop into adult beetles reduces the number of eggs laid to hatch next season’s grubs.
The usual procedure is to spread a safe granular grub insecticide product listed as effective against grubs. Products containing a pyrethroid or one containing Merit™ are applied over affected lawns for the rain or your watering to soak into the soil. Products that control grubs, such Year Long Grub Control by Bayer are found in Yardener's Tool Sheld at Synthetic Insecticides for the Lawn
