Choosing Fine Fescue
The term "fine fescue" refers to a collection of fescues that tend to be fine-textured with thin foliage blades. They generally do quite well in shade, even though they thrive in sun as well as long as they are mowed tall.
Fine fescues include what are called hard fescue, creeping red fescue, chewing fescue, sheep fescue, and spreading fescue. They are packaged alone, but also represent an important component of many mixtures that feature bluegrass or tall fescue. They generally tolerate normal wear but do not recover quickly from serious injury.
