Choosing Centipede Grass

Centipede grass is a low-growing, medium-textured grass with a yellow-green color. It is popular in areas with very poor soils and where low maintenance is more important than a densely packed turf. It forms a loose turf which is not very wear-resistant. It needs very little fertilizer. Consequently, it grows more slowly and needs mowing less often than other grasses. It has fair to good shade tolerance, good drought tolerance, and can be established from seed.
