Region 8. Grass Choices in the Warm Arid Southwest

This is a tough region for lawn grass. Temperatures are high and rainfall is scarce making soils very dry. Irrigation is required here. The most popular grasses are hybrid Bermuda, zoysia and St. Augustine grass.

In the higher elevations, with irrigation, tall fescue can do well. Perennial ryegrass is used to overseed in the wintertime.
