Question From: Redford Charter Township, Michigan, United States
Q: I have an alberta spruce which I managed to get through winter and it was looking good. Within the last three days the needles have started turning brown all around the bottom of the tree. What am I not doing right?? Was so proud it made it through winter.
A: Water would be the first thing to look at. Too much or two little. Trees near foundations often suffer from lack of water. Spider mites could be the problem. Look for tiny webs. Hold a sheet of white paper under the branches and shake the tree. They are very tiny. Next would be disease. Look at the branches for black bumps, white spots, rust colored powder. Take sample to English Gardens for recommendation of treatment. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
