Amaryllis From Target Does Not Require Full Darkness To Bloom

Question From: L. Dixon - Livonia, Michigan, United States
Q: In Nov. 2015, I bought an amaryllis at Target. I followed the directions and it grew and bloomed. The plant has been in front of a south-facing doorwall ever since. I stopped watering it last summer and resumed watering it in Dec. 2016. It never was in total darkness (we have nightlights inside and the outside light remains on all night long). Here is a photo of the plant in full bloom earlier this year.
