Beets Are Small With Knobs On Them

Question From: FLORIDA
Q: When I pulled my beets this summer they were small and had a bunch of knobs all over them. I had picked the green all spring, they were very tasty. Is it the soil or the wrong time to grow beets in Florida.

A:

Beets are cool season crops and do not do well in hot weather. For specific planting times in Florida check with your county extension service. Also get your soil tested to see if you have problems. Your extension service will tell you how to do that. Happy Yardening, Nancy.
