Crepe Myrtle Had White Finger Nail Sized Insects On Bark Which Now Has Tiny Holes All Over

Question From: Marietta, Georgia, United States
Q: mY CRAPE MYRTLE HAD WHITE LITTLE INSECTS ON THE BARK OF THE TREE THIS SUMMER. THEY WERE THE SIZE OF A FINGER NAIL. THERE WERE THOUSANDS OF THEM AND THEY WERE ONLY ON THE BARK. NOW, THE BARK HAS TINY PIN HOLE MARKS ALL OVER IT. IT DID HAVE A FEW FLOWERS ON IT ALSO. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WERE APHIDS BECAUSE THEY LOOKED MORE LIKE MAGETES.

A: Flo, I would get and onsite inspection from a certified arborist ASAP. Aphids don't leave holes in bark. You may also have more than one type of critter chewing away. To find a certified professional in your area cal 800-733-2622 or go to www.tcia.org. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
