Crepe Myrtle Tree Losing Lots Of Sap Where Pruned

Question From: Peachtree City, Georgia, United States
Q: I pruned back the crepe myrtle and from the prune sites a lot of liquid is pouring down trunk. Why?

A: It's a matter of timing. Some trees, such as maples, birches and crepe myrtles produce a heavy sap run in spring and that is what you are seeing. Pruning when the tree is dormant will avoid the heavy gush. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
