Dwarf Rose Bushes Turned Brown Will They Survive And When To Prune

Question From: El Dorado, Arkansas, United States
Q: I had 2 dwarf rose bushes in a 8'x8' planter box in direct sunlight. I don't know if they turned brown because of not enough water or because of a weed killer I used. I cut both back to less than 6" high. I was always told to trim roses in mid Feb. Is there a possibility they might return, or should I pull them up and replace? Thanks.

A: Hard to say Richard. If you have the energy transplant them in a protected area for the winter and keep them watered. No fertilizer. If they come back in spring, you win. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy. ps Prune roses when the forsythia bloom in spring.
