Fungus Is Growing On Hardwood Mulch Beneath Arborvitae

Question From: Grosse Pointe, Michigan, United States
Q: Fungus is appearing on the hardwood mulch below my newly planted arborvitaes?

Tony, It won't hurt your arbs. If it's a small bit, shovel it up and put it in the garbage. Then fluff up the mulch with a rake. Next sprinkle the surface of the mulch with a 50/50 mix of clorox and water. Do not overdo it though as this solution will harm the microbes in the soil. I'd just shovel the worst up and keep fluffing the mulch. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
