Help Rosemary Plant Damaged By Salt Water And Abuse

Question From: NEW JERSEY
Q: My beautiful rosemary plant was damaged in hurricane sandy, can you give me some ideas how to help it. A tree fell in our yard and its branches were laying on the plant and the men who removed the tree weren't too careful either. I am hoping you can give me some advice. Thank you for your time

A:

I'm not quite clear on what's wrong with it. Prune off any damaged or dead branches. If the salt water got to it, rinse the soil with two inches of water twice a week to wash away the salt. Pelleted gypsum will also help rid the soil of salts. Gently mix it into the top inch or so of soil. If the plant is potted repot it. When it shows new signs of growth I'd feed it with fish and kelp emulsion at half strength. Happy Yardening Nancy
