Question From: Livonia, Michigan, United States
Q: Your article 8/16/2013 said you would be amending your heavy clay soil with some juiced up and finely ground composted pine bark. What did you juice it up with? and how did you get the pine bark finely ground? Is that all that is needed to get heavy clay soil amended?
A: Dianne, I use OrganiMax compost and Fafard soil conditioner (fine ground composted pine bark) English Gardens carries the compost and the composted pine bark. They also have their own brand of soil conditioner. The OrganiMax is laced with all sorts of beneficial microbes and other soil amendments. When planting acid loving plants such as Hydrangeas I also add Canadian Sphagnum moss. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
