Question From: MICHIGAN
Q: What's the "trick" to over-winter canna bulbs/rhizomes? We've tried leaving them in mulch and in saw dust with no luck. We've also removed all soil and placed them under newspapers but every spring we find they are not going to come back for planting again.
A: To be honest, I have never done it, but my grandfather did it for years. I believe the real secret is temperature of storage areas. The same holds true for dahlias. 40 to 50 degrees is the magic. I think bagging them up on those thick paper bags used to recycle yard trash may work best, and elevate them off the floor. Good Luck, Nancy and Happy Yardening
