How To Prevent Burning Of Bald Cypress After Fertilizer Has Been Applied

Question From: Henrietta, Texas, United States
Q: Nancy, I read your post on fertilizing bald cypress with granular slow release nitrogen on my 1-2 year old trees and I applied a small scoop around the base but our weather just took a turn toward hot dry conditions for at least the 10 day forecast. I really don't want to burn my trees. What can you advise me to do to prevent the worst case scenario. I can water them everyday until the extreme heat is over or should I leave them and hope the slow release doesn't release too fast. I watered them after applying yesterday.

A: Relax Aaron, Your watering probably washed away most of the chemical. No more fertilizing until the trees go dormant. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
