How To Store Eremurus Bulbs

Question From: L. Bailey - Monroe, Michigan, United States
Q: Hi Nancy, I have 4 or 5 bags of Eremurus that I don't want to plant till fall. How should I care for them in the meantime? Any other hints about this plant? I have failed miserably in the past Thanks

A: Eremurus roots are usually shipped and planted in the fall. If the bulbs are not dried out or have mushy spots they still may be viable. I''ve heard of folk storing bulbs in the veg drawer of the refrigerator, but have no experience with this. I suggest you call my friends at Brent and Becky's Bulbs - www.brentandbeckysbulbs.com for advice. My experience with Eremurus, AKA foxtail lilies is they are short lived perennials - mine lasted three years. I planted them in an area of my garden that got full sun and sandy soil amended with compost. Fast drainage is key. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
