Hybrid Willow Leaves Are Turning Yellow

Question From: Basin, Wyoming, United States
Q: My hybrid willows the leaves are turning yellow. What could be making this happen? I need to know if I should be putting something on them because of bugs or something But I don't see any. My girlfrends she lives by me and hers are doing the same thing. We do have clayish soil.

Could be that the trees are in stress. Dry winters, late season frosts, and severe temperature swings in late winter and early spring can damage leaf buds. Be sure the trees are kept watered if it does not rain. Be patient as the tree may produce new leaves. You can also package some leaves and take them to your independent garden center or nursery that sells these trees for a more accurate ID. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
