Identify And Manage Native Milkweed

Question From: Belleville, Michigan, United States
Q: I've noticed what looks like the milkweed that was in our yard when I was a kid growing in my present garden. I didn't plant it. Do I assume that it's the native milkweed that the monarchs like?

A: It probably is. The flower cluster will look snow ball shapes. They're really quite beautiful up close and have a lovely fragrance. I would not allow it to go to seed. If you decide to save the seed and plant it elswhere. In a field or ditch, do so right after the seeds ripen - the pod will crack open. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
