Japanese Pagoda Leaves Are Turning And Falling Early And Bark Is Weeping Sap

Question From: F. Worrell - Ocean City, New Jersey, United States
Q: Could my Japanese PagodaTree be diving? Leaves are turning and falling at least one month early and the bark is weeping sap. The tree is between 25-35 years old and did flower this year. It has had some limbs removed when a new home was constructed next door three years ago. I live in a beach town in southern New Jersey.

A: Sounds like a fungal disease. I recommend you get an onsite inspection from a certified arborist. To find one in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. In the mean time give the tree a good soaking a couple of times a week. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
