Marigolds Have Quarter Sized Circle Of Brownish Blackish Color In Center Of Blooms

Question From: Athens, Georgia, United States
Q: My marigolds have looked healthy so far this summer but recently the blooms are developing a quarter sized circle of brownish blackish color in the center. Comments?

A: Your marigolds have a fungal disease. Removing all the infected plant material may help. If not the plants should be destroyed. Clean your scissors with alcohol as you move from plant to plant. Water the plants from the base using a watering wand. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
