Mature Firebush Shrub Has Loads Of Tiny Black Insects
Question From: OHIO
Q: We have found loads of black tiny insects, maybe mites, on a mature firebush shrub. The leaves on the growing tips are curled. What are these and how can we control them, with or without pesticides? We used "Garden Safe" fungicide concentrate labeled for as fungicide, insecticide, and miticide. Is that the best to use and is it the safest to use?
The bugs are aphids. Begin by spraying the shrub with a stiff stream of water to knock off a bunch of them. You can use the Garden Safe Fungicide 3. You will have to spray several times to get rid of them. If it doesn't do the job try Cap't Jack's Dead Bug Brew by Bonide containing Spinosad. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
