Purple Aliums Have White Blobs In Center

Question From: M. Fleet - Woodstock, Ontario, Canada
Q: Dear Nancy My purple aliums have white "egg like" blobs in the center. About 60 percent of the flowers on my patch have this. Is this a female bloom vs a male bloom? Or is it the plant mimicking an insect larvae or perhaps an actual butterfly egg nursery? I can NOT find any information on entomology sites or gardening sites. Please help. This is fascinating. It is always a group of three and is symmetrical in all cases. Thanks, Maria - in zone 5 ish

A: Can't answer your question. I suggest you contact the folks at John Scheepers, importers of these bulbs. www.johnscheepers.com. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
