Pussy Willow Has Only A Few Catkins

Question From: V. Arnold - Glenoma, Washington, United States
Q: My Pussy Willow tree puts on only a few catkins every year, even though I heavily trim it every year. Could it be nutrition?

A: Pussy willows thrive when given moist soil and full sun - 6 hours or more of direct sun daily. They can be cut back to the ground every two to three years and this should be done after they bloom in spring. You can feed them in late fall with Espoma Plant Tone. If you meet all these requirements they should thrive. I suggest you stop the annual buzz cut. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
