Should Our Stressed Douglas Fir Tree Be Fertilized

Question From: W. Young - Happy Valley, Oregon, United States
Q: We just recently bought a home in the Portland area. An arborist told us that our Douglas fir is stressed, probably from not getting enough water over the last few years. We have had a great deal of rain this winter, which I am sure helps, but should we also fertilize the tree as you suggested to a person who also wrote you? We will add wood chips (around the trunk and then out to the drip line?) but should we also add Ironite and the Espoma Tree Tone?

A: Fertilizing will be helpful to the tree, but do not over due it. Use the product according to package directions. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
