Should Trees Be Planted Over A Septic Field

Question From: C. Reick - MICHIGAN
Q: Nancy, I'm considering buying a home where the owner has planted trees on top of the septic field. I've always been told this was "a no-no". What is your opinion?

A:

That's a super no-no. Tree roots will break up cement and they love poop. A failed septic system clogged with tree roots could cost you a fortune. Unless money is no object, I'd look elsewhere. Good Luck, Nancy and Happy Yardening
