Something Is Eating Trumpet Creeper Vine Flowers

Question From: R. Wesley - Saint Clair, Michigan, United States
Q: Trumpet creeper vine. Strong base, grows great, and after 4-5 years, it is blossoming super good. However - something is eating the flowers. Often before they even finish opening up, something, whether bugs or a disease is eating them. They are a good color, the leaves look perfectly healthy. But the flowers are getting devored! We're in Michigan.

A: Sadly I don't have a crystal ball so I can't tell you what or who is eating the flowers on your trumpet vine. The only bug I can think of would be earwigs. They be inside the trumpet so you might not see them. I suggest you get some sticky traps -yellow cards covered with sticky stuff that bugs will stick to. You can get them at English Gardens or other independent garden centers. Or you can make them yourself using bright yellow index cards and Vaseline. Take the cards to you garden center for an Id and suggestions for control. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
