Tulip Tree New Growth Not Robust Or Normally Timed

Question From: Redwood City, California, United States
Q: For the last 2 years my tulip tree has not been robust. The leaves are smaller lighter green, not dark and shiny. There is new leafing and growth, as well as flowering in the late winter, early spring. There are some branches that have a few brown leaves but there is also a lot of new growth. What could be happening?

A: Heat and drought have reaped havoc on trees the past couple of years. I suggest you have a certified arborist do an on-site inspection of your tree. Stressed trees are vulnerable to both insects and diseases, so your tree may have more than one issue. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
