When And How To Fertilize Boxwoods

Question From: r. talley - Chesterfield, Virginia, United States
Q: when should u fertilize boxwoods in central va and with what? How should they be trimmed? Thanks Bob talley

A: Boxwoods don't really need to be fertilized. A couple of inches of organic bark, pine needles and a bit of compost will do the job. If you feel you must fertlize, sprinkle a cupfull of Espoma plant tone on the surface of the soil around the shub. Pruning is optional. Some folks use a hedge trimmer while others use hedge shears. If you choose to cut back always leave some green on a branch so it will regenerate new growth. Read more about boxwood on Yardener.com. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
