When Should Salvia Be Pruned

Question From: M. HALL - Plano, Texas, United States
Q: When should salvia be pruned? My wife read somewhere that they need to be pruned 3 times a year, but when? when she did it apparently cut off the flowering part, and it took 3 months for one to bloom, the other have not bloomed this year at all. Thanks for any help, Mark Hall

A: There is a difference between pruning and dead heading. Removing the stems of spent blooms stimulates the production of new flowers. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
