When To Dethatch Lawn

Question From: F. Balogh - Lakewood, Washington, United States
Q: Would it be ok to thatch and over seed my lawn in early February. I live in Western Washington

Frank, Grass seed germinates when the soil temperatur is 50 degrees or warmer. Also, dethatching lawn that is too wet will do more harm than good. It compacts the soil - walking on it and destroys more of the existing grass plants. Patience is a virtue. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
