White Crepe Myrtle Grows Lots Of Unwanted Shoots Near Base Of Trunk

Question From: Baltimore, Maryland, United States
Q: My healthy white crepe myrtle has a single six foot tall trunk. Each year I prune it and it attains a shape like an umbrella. Growing right next to the trunk, but not on it, are about 18 very healthy shoots, two feet high and still growing. Last year I cut them off, but they are back again this year. I would like to end them once and for all.

A: There is a product called Sucker Stopper. You should be able to get it an independent garden center or you can get it online at Amazon. Give it a try. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
