White Oily Film On Outdoor Ivy

Question From: N. Moses - California, United States
Q: I have outdoor Ivy and I noticed a white oily film on it..what is this and what should I do?

A: My guess is you have two issues. Powdery mildew, a fungal disease that produces a white residue and a sucking insect that produces a shiny coating on leaves - hence a white oily substance on the leaves. I suggest you bag up several infected leaves and take them to a good independent nursery or garden center for an accurate ID and recommendation for control. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
