Young Norway Spruce Trees Are Brown In Some Parts After Winter

Q: I planted 13 12' Norway Spruces last December. On the side of two of the trees there is a brown area about 2' by 4'. The tress were given fertilizer in the spring and they get a medium about of light.

A: Your tree appears to have suffered winter burn. The tree was unable to take up enough moisture before the deep winter freeze. There is nothing to be done. Nature will take it's couse. Do not fertilize again, but be sure to water well, especially in hot weather. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
