Center Of Chrysanthemum Has Woody Stems

Question From: North Wales, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: The center of my plant has woody stems and has spread outward while the rest of the plant is green with buds.

A: I'm not quite clear as to the situation, but it sounds like the mums need to be divided. Perennials tend to die out in the center as they age. Hope this helps. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
